My parents always refer to him without using the Ds in his name, making him E-wah Woo-wah. They do this more often than you might think necessary.
That sounds like a primitive deity, bringing the Wicker Man connection full circle.
THe Wicker Man is a much better movie than most people think, though it does have a couple of sections that...well....
My affection for Edward Woodward comes from his stint on American television as The Equalizer. He was sooooo cool in the title role.
I concur with C.B., Woodward's role in The Equalizer was a favorite of mine when I was young. And my affection for him is for that...well, Hot Fuzz too, I guess.
I also heard he was a pretty fine tenor too.
At least now next year's harvest won't fail...
There's a joke which I can't remember that has the punchline E-wah Woo-wah, which is probably where JRSM's parents get it from, cos I do exactly the same. I'd be most grateful if anyone can remember it properly...
There's a rumour that the E-war Woo-war thing was started by Dame Judi Dench. Or Ame Jui Ench as I suppose we must call her.
I'd no idea that a mention of the great Woodward would prompt so many comments (liked the harvest gag, Mrs Jones).
I can't remember the original ewahwoowah joke, but I do recall another:
"What do you call a man with a wooden head?"
"Edward Woodward"
I never quite got it, but it became funny by default.
As for The Equalizer, I wasted many hours watching this programme. Many people attribute the drop in the New York crime rate to Guiliani and Bratton, but I know that it was the Equalizer.
I'm ashamed to say Ive never seen The Wicker Man, though one always feels as if one has because it's so often included in those 100 Best Films Ever Ever Ever programmes. I do so want to watch it, particularly after watching the trailer you posted.
I do remember the man with a wooden head joke though.

Poor Mrs Frank Spencer (his real life wife). I am sure she is missing him.
Strangely enough I though Michael Caine in his new film Harry Brown had echoes of Edward Woodward about him now he has aged.
