I presume that last one was inspired by a Tess of the D'Urbervilles spin-off - or inspired Tess of the D'Urbervilles, depending on the dates involved. We used to sing that song (My Face is My Fortune, Sir etc) a lot at my primary school, I should point out. As a result, I formed the foolish impression that my face was paved with gold. Perhaps this is why my favourite word in the German language is 'Enttauschung' (add umlauts where appropriate)
Utterly charming.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Worried about the first couple walking off a cliff. Love Wee Willie with the Rackhamesque architecture.
ReplyDeleteAt last we know why Jack fell down the hill! Trying to steal a kiss from Jill, naughty lad.
ReplyDeleteThese illustrations are beautiful - I've always loved that style. :D
