I suppose that the day will come when I'll stop being amused by crass inuendoes, but until then, I shall continue to enjoy these unintentionally homoerotic books:
I wonder which of today's words or phrases will attract sniggers in a hundred years' time? Will a word we commonly use, like robust, come to mean something terribly rude?
The future is in our hands.
As a queer, these always make me laugh. I think I like Biggles Takes It Rough the best in terms of images That Exciting Holiday really takes the prize.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is "That Exciting Holiday".
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the Enid Blyton spoof "Five Go Mad in Dorset".
Great covers. I think you've got a really great job!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Especially 'Biggles Takes It Rough'
ReplyDeleteI reckon you could auction them as a collection for a lot of pink pound! ; -)
I've had my suspicions about Biggles for some time
ReplyDeleteWhen I traveled to England, the used bookstores were astonishing to me in the richness of their variety. Funny titles or not, I would read everyone of these books; I am dying to know what the queer doings at Quantham were.
ReplyDeleteAlong with the queer things that went on in Quantham, I have several books with titles like The Gay Adventure.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny to think that these writers thought that they were picking innoent, wholesome-sounding titles.
...and now for something completely different.
ReplyDeleteEndless fun! My first job in the late 70s was at a music store where we had a whole secret file of sheet music unintended sexual (much of it gay)innuendo which we called "The Wedding File". Sort of our revenge for having to help so many couples pick out the perfect songs for their nuptials.
