Genius

My fellow bookseller Mr Bedside Crow has recently posted a link on his fine blog to an author's website that is one of the best things I've ever seen on the internet. A collection of short stories by an unknown author normally makes booksellers' hearts sink, but Miranda July's promotional website for her new book is just brilliant.

Click on Ms July and I promise you won't regret it.

  1. It's very cute, but I find myself disappointed to read on and discover rave reviews from Dave Eggers and so on. Not quite an unknown debut, rather a "performance artist", "film maker" and "writer." I don't know why that should bother me, I suppose it seems more studiously kooky than I at first supposed it to be. Saying that tho', any Eggers review that mentions Lorrie Moore as a comparison will probably result in me buying the book.

  2. I found it a bit tedious, actually, but I won't let that put me off the book.

  3. Her film, You Me and Everybody we Know, is good, though admitedly kooky, too.(and you can buy it from the house of satan for a fiver.)

  4. I obviously hyped it up too much, but it made me happy.

  5. Well, Steerforth, I check the site before checking up on your comments and I truly enjoyed it a great deal.

I think she is very clever, for using this kind of marketing strategy, funny, and might have an interesting way of looking at the world with these attributes. I admit: I'm very curious about the book though I know it will be hard for me to find it around here.
