I have just watched the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who and loved it. In this age of multi-channel television, the idea of sitting down as family and watching one programme together seems antiquated, which is why the BBC should be congratulated for producing something that appeals to such a broad cross-section of viewers without ever being bland.
My seven-year-old son thinks that the new assistant is even better than Rose, but I suspect that's because children of his age are all shameless neophytes.
Just discovered your blog; what a superb name you have..
ReplyDeleteYes, like "eating", "watching TV" en famille, appears to have disintegrated a little.. (although " Strictly Come Dancing" had its good points in that direction..)
But you're right re the Dr; he appeals to everyone ( well, certainly D Tennant does!)
Havent seen the new assistant yet; she'll have a hard act to follow in Rose so hope for your son's sake it all works out.
Do you mean neophiles?
ReplyDeleteI can't really get behind this David Tennant (shh! don't tell Struggling Writer) but if this new series is so good I will give it another try. He's no Tom Baker, though.
Neophyte - where did that come from? I usually start writing after the third glass, which may be the root of the problem.
ReplyDeleteI can see how neophyte doesn't really work, but neophile isn't in my Concise Oxford English so I am confused.
ReplyDeleteIt was a neologism.
